Rottweilers and the Third Age

Despite their size, Rottweilers make wonderful pets, and though not necessarily ideal for those in their Third Age – broadly speaking, the Over 50s – given sufficient exercise they can and will happily adapt to life with the older owner.
So if you are in your Third Age and looking for a companion dog, don’t necessarily rule out the faithful Rottweiler!

I am 64 years old and I have a 2 year old Rottie cross bitch. If you are active they make great companions. Over the years I have owned several dogs including a Dobermann & Border Collie. The Rottie is by far the best natured one that I have had.
I think better a decent third age person than a young chav trying to “look HARD”
I blame the breeders they need to be far more responcible who these great dogs are sold to
Also the Kennal club ect must take their share of responcibility as i feel breeders need to be properly licenced and many dogs of all breeds should be sold nutered to stop back street breading
I am 48 1/2 and can’t believe that ‘50′ onwards is the third age. We’ve recently adopted a 6 year old rescue Rottie – and she’s adorable and very well behaved. She makes our two miniature dachshunds ( who we thought were relatively well behaved) look like hooligans.
Yes, she can pull at the lead when she wants to greet other dogs and people and it can be a full upper body work out but she’ll keep us fit and young. Not for the faint-hearted but if discipline- with love- can be maintained Rotties make great pets. Family, friends and neighbours have been won over by her wonderful personality.
i have a two year old male rottie and he is no bother to me he does everything he is told and i have trained myself and im only 19 ( young chav apparantly ) me and my dog have a solid relationship the only problem is the people who buy them as status dogs mine is a loyal family pet and gets on great wiv my 1 yr old daughter . Rotties are not made for everyone.
