It’s such an exciting time for the whole family when you bring a new puppy home. This little fluffy baby now relies on you to ensure that he is healthy, gets exercise and lots of attention. Choosing the right puppy food is a very important step in the puppy process; the right food will stimulate healthy bone development and keep your puppy healthy. But how to you choose from the rows of puppy foods available?

It’s actually an easy three step process.

Ensure the food you are buying is made for puppies

Ensure it contains good quality ingredients

Make sure that it only contains natural preservatives and no chemical ingredients

Is it Puppy Food?

Food that has been made specifically for puppies includes the right amount of fats, proteins and nutrients needed to help your new puppy grow. It promotes healthy bones and good health.

If you think about it a puppy grows at a fast rate, by six months to a year they are almost at their full size, this means that their bones need to develop fast. Ensuring your puppy gets the right food will make all the difference.

Follow the directions and feed your puppy according to the label. All dog foods vary with the amount you need to give your new fluffy friend. Each feeding label is designed to ensure that your puppy gets the right amount of nutrients that it needs.

Puppies don’t know when to stop eating and very often will overeat. Make sure you don’t over feed your puppy. Give them the required amount per day and let them enjoy a healthy life.

What are Good Ingredients?

Make sure that meat is the main ingredient. Meat should take up the first three ingredients mentioned and should not include any by-products. The fats should say beef fat or chicken fat, if it says animal fat do not buy it. Animal fat is a low quality fat which is difficult for your puppy to digest.

If anywhere in the list of ingredients it mentions wheat, corn meal or soy meal do not buy it, these can cause allergies and are also very difficult for your puppy to digest.

How to Know If It Contains Natural or Chemical Preservatives

Choosing a puppy food isn’t easy, but if you follow the three steps you can be assured that your puppy is getting the best food to promote healthy bones and good health.

Natural preservatives will usually include vitamin E, where chemical preservatives include BHA and ethoxquin. If you are unsure at any stage, you can ask your vet who will be more than happy to give you suggestions.

When to Feed Puppies

Puppies are greedy and are very quick to overeat. The best suggestion is to feed your puppy twice a day, this way they will have the right amount of protein and nutrients to replace the energy they are burning up as they run around investigating and learning new things.

Take the daily allowance of the food you have chosen and divide it by two. Feed one portion in the morning and one in the late afternoon to early evening. Alternate between foods to give your dog variety and ensure they get a well-balanced diet, you can choose between dry or wet foods or you can mix the two, this is your choice.

Rottweiler dogs often suffer from a poor reputation from the media this is often down to the poor training and discipline from their owners, however this poor reputation is not earned. As a breed of dog a Rottweiler is a strong and athletic and when trained properly can be calm, confident and courageous. When considering purchasing a Rottweiler careful consideration has to be put into whether that you have enough time and experience to properly train and nurture the dog to ensure that its best attributes are brought out.

Experience is needed from the dog owner from an early age to install obedience and to establish a mutually rewarding relationship, consequently a rottie is often the not most suitable pet for a first time owner. Rottweilers are incredibly loyal dogs that often do not react well to strangers or other dogs on their territory. They are an intelligent dog who respond well to interaction and to training and so therefore this need for strong training is required from an early age to ensure good behavioral traits.

Like many dogs, Rottweiler’s will misbehave if they are ignored and become bored so therefore it is important that you devote a lot of time to your dog especially at a young age. The advantages of doing this will be that the Rottweiler will be a great dog to own, a good family dog (if you teach your children to respect it and vice-versa) and someone who is self confident, loyal and who won’t eat you out of house and home.
